About This Trip

The North Island of New Zealand is a stunning combination of extreme natural beauty and rich Maori history. Your knowledgeable, friendly guide will help uncover every aspect of the North Island so you get to truly know what makes it tick. You will catch all of the highlights, but also get off the beaten track to see some very special parts of the island.  


There are so many natural highlights in the North Island, but we have managed to fit them all in to give you an unforgettable experience. Driving past the snow-covered peaks of Mt Ruapehu and Mt Tongariro you might expect an alpine adventure, but nothing could be further from the truth. You will head along the Thermal Explorer Highway to spend time at the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua. With trips in gondolas to view the area from above and in-depth guided tours around the site, you will enjoy every second of your time here.  


From Rotorua, you head towards the paradise that is the Bay of Islands. Here you will take to the azure seas to explore tiny islands, fringed with white sands and calm bays. The seas are teeming with glorious wildlife and you are invited to jump right in and join the turtles, rays and dolphins that inhabit this region of intense natural beauty.  


Add to this some time to explore Wellington and Auckland and you have a North Island adventure that will live long in the memory.

The North Island is rich in natural beauty and this is what we really wanted to tap into in this tour, to make sure that you experienced all sides of this wonderful island. The Bay of Islands is truly stunning, a real paradise that you just don’t see coming after driving through snow-capped peaks at the start of your trip.  


Rotorua is world-famous and really needs no introduction, but we wanted to make sure that you got to explore it properly. So, we added in the gondola trip to give you an aerial view of the power of this natural wonder and then added a speedy luge trip to bring you back down to earth.  


To get a broad range of the cultural aspects of the North Island we not only immerse you in Maori culture everywhere you visit but take you to the remarkable Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum, which will stun you with its cutting edge technology. A trip that covers all aspects of North Island life.


The tour starts in Wellington where you will be collected from the airport and taken to your hotel. From there, you never need to lift a finger and every transfer is covered until you arrive in Auckland, where at the end of the tour we will transport you to meet your onward flight.

Passport & visa requirements

  • All visitors require a passport to enter New Zealand. For Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport, you do not need a visa or permit to visit New Zealand
  • Any visitor that is not an Australian citizen may require a visa to enter
  • It is the visitors responsibility to ensure they are holding the correct and current visa for the countries they are visiting
  • If the visitor is a non-Australian passport holder, a valid re-entry visa may be required
  • Important: Please start arranging your visa at least 6-8 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours and processing times
  • A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants)

Fitness Requirements

  • Travellers should have a good level of physical fitness and mobility. They must be able to negotiate uneven surfaces and in some cases climb stairs

Dietary Requirements

Luggage limits

  • All travellers are supplied with a travel bag for personal and small items which can be carried on the coach when travelling. The travel bag is designed to carry a maximum of 6kg (13lbs). Due to limited space on board the coach, please ensure carry-on bags do not exceed this limit. Each traveller is entitled to travel with ONE suitcase on tour measuring (length + width + depth) no more than 150cm (59”)
  • Weight limits also apply to luggage due to Occupational Health and Safety issues. Approximately, the maximum suitcase weight allowed is 23kg (50lbs). If a traveller brings more than the allocated limit of luggage, any additional arrangements made to get their luggage to the final destination will be at their own expense
  • Please be aware that oversized or overweight luggage may be refused to be carried by coach companies. All luggage is entirely at the ‘owners risk’ whilst on tour and we strongly recommend that travel insurance be taken out by each traveller to cover accidental damage or loss


Luggage tags

  • Located in your ticket wallet. For proper identification, please ensure you attach your luggage tag to the top handle of your main suitcase and not your hand luggage. This will assist the Coach Captain to identify your luggage when loading the coach throughout your tour


Money matters

  • New Zealand’s unit of currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZD). All major international credit cards are accepted and provided they are encoded with a PIN, may be used to obtain cash from Automatic Teller Machines throughout New Zealand. Check with your bank whether this facility is available to you. It is highly recommended you obtain a small amount of New Zealand currency prior to your arrival in New Zealand
  • Cash Passports or Travel Money Cards are popular and are a safe and convenient way to allow you to access cash at Automatic Teller Machines throughout New Zealand


Name badge

  • For travellers receiving their documentation pack prior to arrival in New Zealand, please ensure you are wearing your personalised name badge upon arrival at the airport for easy identification
  • For all other travellers, your name badge will be included as part of your documentation pack made available at your first tour hotel in NZ. Please ensure you wear your name badge at all times whilst on tour



  • New Zealanders do not depend on tips for their income, however tipping in appreciation for extra-special service is at the discretion of the individual traveller
  • Some tours may organise an envelope to be circulated for a group presentation to the Coach Captain and/or Tour Guide but any contribution is based on individual appreciation and is not mandatory


Smoking laws

  • Smoking is not permitted in all indoor spaces in New Zealand hospitality venues. This means you can no longer smoke inside places such as bars, gaming venues, clubs, hotel rooms, and restaurants

Role of your Coach Captain & Tour Guide

  • Your Coach Captain is responsible for driving and maintaining the coach and for providing commentary throughout the tour. Your Tour Guide is responsible for your wellbeing and for co-ordinating all the accommodation and activities. It is important whilst travelling on tour that you follow all crew instructions

Coach seat rotation

  • For the enjoyment of all travellers a daily seat rotation operates which all travellers must participate in as a condition of booking. The coach seat plan is displayed on the coach for your reference
