Explore the wonders of the Iberian Peninsula on this full exploration of Spain & Portugal over 20 days. Discover the myriad of differences between each region within the countries, the food, the dialect and the local customs as you explore the highlights they all have to offer.
Iberia is the most south-westerly corner of Europe and is made up of Spain and Portugal. On this extensive trip, we are going to explore every single highlight of this region's glorious, vibrant cultures.
You begin in the capital of Spain, Madrid, but quickly we head north to the wondrous Basque Country, an area of the country that identifies as non-Spanish. The Basque language is so completely unrecognisable from every other language in the world, but as ever, it is worth learning a few words just for politeness! Here you will visit the food capital of Spain, San Sebastian, a glorious city with cobblestoned old town famed for its pintxos, tiny bite-sized morsels, bursting with incredible flavour.
You will move along the north coast, visiting some of Spain’s locals-only spots, with glorious beaches, stunning Gothic architecture and an ever-changing palate of local cuisine. You will then dip down into Galicia, following part of the world-famous pilgrimage, the Camino de Santiago.
Then, it is a short jump over to Portugal, where you will visit the majestic cities of Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon, with many enticing stops in between. The cultural differences here are obvious, being that Portugal is a completely different country, however, when you come back to Southern Spain, you will be shocked that it is the same country you have already been in. The baked landscapes of Moorish Spain contrast heavily with the greens of the north, but the fusion of cultures here has produced some of the world's most incredible sites and by visiting Cordoba, Seville and Granada, you will spend time revelling amongst them.
The final stretch of the trip is along the southern coast, through Valencia to finish up in the Gothic/Gaudi masterpiece that is the vibrant and exciting Barcelona. So much to pack in, and so much passion to absorb, but we have ensured that every corner of Spain is covered, and every experience treasured, so you have the most complete and wondrous adventure in Iberia.
