However, it is the more hidden corners of Romania that really excite us about this trip. Bucharest, Romania’s lively capital, is the perfect gateway to an off-the-beaten-path adventure. With its blend of Belle Époque architecture, gritty street art, and the massive Palace of the Parliament, it offers an authentic, unpolished charm. Beyond Bucharest, hidden gems await—Cernavodă, a peaceful riverside town, Constanța, a historic Black Sea port with ancient ruins and Turkish influences, and Giurgiu, a sleepy Danube town offering a glimpse into local life. Each stop immerses you in Romania’s lesser-known treasures, far from the usual tourist trails.

This trip starts off in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.  After a few days here you will be taken to Oltenita, where you will board your Danube river cruiser.  On the trip you will start with a deep dive into Romania, visiting Oltenita, Cernavoda and Constantia, before doubling back on yourself and heading to Giurgiu and then into Bulgaria. Here you will stop in Ruse before crossing into Belgrade in Serbia.  A stop in Novi Sad and then you are into Hungary as you spend some time in Budapest, before heading up to Slovenia and its charming capital Bratislava and then finishing off in Vienna, Austria.

Passport & visa requirements

• All visitors require a passport with a minimum validity of 3 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants)

• If the visitor is a non-Australian passport holder, a valid re-entry visa may be required

Health & vaccination

• As border restrictions for countries begin to ease, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will maximise the number of locations you can visit. So whilst you are not legally required to be vaccinated, and it’s also not a requirement to travel with us, it will limit some of the countries that you can visit and may make it harder to travel for the next 12-18 months.
• We highly recommend our travellers to look at the current travel restrictions of their destination, speak with a medical professional at least 30 days before departure or get in touch with our team for travel advice.
• Health care such as a doctor’s surgery, dentist and optometrists may not always be accessible on this tour
• It is advised that you ensure you have adequate health insurance cover as part of your travel insurance
